Since I was a child, I have had a fondness for this marshland plant. So, when I came upon the dead-end road that was lined with them at the turn-around, I felt drawn to step out and walk alongside them.

Meeting the curator of the house that sat just off to side of the road’s end, I explained that I was just there to shoot some nature. We talked a bit about how beautiful and grand the marsh is now and she told me stories of how she watched the geese fight for their territories during the winter. She also explained that she needed to return back to her duties while the owner was not at home, and that I was more than welcome to take my time and do what I pleased along the grassy edge.

I trolled my way slowly from one end to the other, catching the sun’s rays on my skin and seeing its glare upon the tall grasses.

As I made my way back to where I started, the sun reflected itself on this great stalk, announcing to me that this was the special one that I had to shoot.
